Originally from Alberta, Canada, Roger Smith previously served as the International Student Specialist from 2008-2011 in the Office of Minority and International Students (OMIS). As the Designated School Offical (PDSO/DSO), Roger provides a range of immigration compliance and advising services to international students. As the Director of OMIS his mission is to encourage the cultural, social, and academic well-being of students from all backgrounds, and promote a socially justice campus community.
Roger is committed to the idea that diversity is essential to a quality education, to building a critical awareness of world issues and to equipping us with competencies for constructive leadership in a diverse world of work and community.
His experience includes employment with Up with People, a global education program in which he held the position of North American Event Coordinator. More recently, Roger worked at Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin where he worked in Alumni Relations, Development, Cultural Diversity and International Education.
Smith earned his Bachelors degree in Business Administration/Management from Carroll University (Waukesha, WI) in 2002 and is currently completing his MBA in International Business at Lakeland College (Sheboygan, WI).
Roger is married to Karen Smith (from the Netherlands) and is a proud father of three children – a daughter, Nevaeh; son, Landon; and son, Soren. His favorite hobbies include: running, movies, snowboarding, going to coffee shops, and he is passionate about international travel!
Beth Kancilia

Beth Kancilia originally hails from Melbourne, Florida, and is a 2010 graduate of Colorado College. As the LGBTQ Specialist, Beth works with and advocates for LGBTQIA+ and Ally students, and focuses on issues and concerns relating to gender and sexuality. Beth has a strong background in social justice work, social justice and inclusivity trainings, and LGBTQIA+ issues. Beth also coordinates the First Generation Program; advises the multi-cultural residential building, the Glass House; oversees the Ellis U. Butler Jr. Center for Intercultural Leadership Center; and conducts social justice and inclusivity trainings across campus.
Before returning to Colorado College as a full-time member of the OMIS staff, Beth worked at NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado in Denver, CO, and traveled in Europe. Beth is especially passionate about building just and inclusive communities, student and youth leadership, feminism, sex education, and meaningful discussion around intersecting identities. Her favorite hobbies include: traveling, design, theatre and performance, and aquariums.
Sarai Mattson

Sarai Matton is a 2011 graduate of Colorado College. As the Minority Student Specialist, Sarai works to create a just and inclusive campus community for all students, focusing her work on American Ethnic Minorities, first-generation students, issues of socio-economic status, immigration and gender.
Sarai advises 13 student organizations, the Global Living Learning Community, organizes International Student Orientation, and coordinates the first-generation program.
Sarai loves spending time with her family, skiing, crafting, and hiking.
