Connect to a Printer

  1. Click on the "Start Menu."
  2. In the search box, type "cmd."
  3. In the command prompt, type, "start," then the the server and name of the printer you want to add in the following format: start \\servername.coloradocollege.edu\printername 
    (ex. start \\print.coloradocollege.edu\bar2w-color)
  4. Hit, "Enter," on your keyboard to process the command.
  5. Wait for the system to add your printer. You may be asked for a username and password, depending on your settings. If you are asked for one, use your regular Colorado College username. Put your username in like this: ColoradoCollege\username. Make sure you check the box that says "Remember credentials."
  6. Your printer is now installed! You can click on "Devices and Printers" in the start menu to make sure that it's working.

  1. Open the Apple menu.
  2. Select "System Preferences."
  3. Select "Print & Scan."
  4. Select "+" to add a printer.
  5. Select "IP."
  6. Select the "Line Printer Daemon LPD" protocol.
  7. Type the address of the print server in the Address field.
    1. For almost all printers, this should be "print.coloradocollege.edu" (you can check here)
      1. NOTE: for some lab printers, it should be "printserver.coloradocollege.edu" - for example, TuttFirstfloor, SlocumLab, LoomisLab, MathiasLab, and WornerLab.
  8. Type the name of the printer you want to map in the Queue field.
  9. Type the printer's name and location in the respective fields.
  10. Click "Add."
  11. Check "Duplex Printing Unit" when asked to note that the printer is capable of double sided printing.
