Public Health Initiatives

Public Health Initiatives are student-led groups that focus on a wide array of health issues.  Such student groups range from organizations like Advocates for Choice to Relay for Life.  Below is a list of student-led groups that emphasize health issues.  If you would like to view more information, just click on the student group you are interested in.

Advocates for Choice 

Advocates for Choice is a group that promotes advocacy and education for reproductive health rights.  

Breckenridge Adaptive Ski

Breckenridge Adaptive Ski trains CC student volunteers to use adaptive ski equipment on ski slopes.  Once students are certified, they become a ski buddy for a person with a disability.  

CC Community Kitchen

The CC Community Kitchen prepares and serves lunch every Sunday in the back of Shove Chapel to the homeless.  The Community Kitchen has just celebrated its 20th Anniversary of continued service to the Colorado Springs community.   

Disability Awareness Group (DAWG)

Disability Awareness Group (DAWG) is a club that focuses on bringing awareness to a variety of disabilities.  

Empty Bowls

Empty Bowls is a yearly fundraiser that raises awareness about and funds to fight hunger and homelessness.  Attendees receive handmade ceramic bowls and all the soup they can eat.  

GlobeMed

Global Health is dedicated to engaging students in global health issues and developing health equity and social justice.  

Helping Hands

The mission of Helping Hands is to serve the Colorado Springs community in health-related fields and to provide a platform for Colorado College students to interact with the local community through health-related service. Currently, CC juniors and seniors partner with Penrose Hospital through Helping Hands, with plans to expand the scope and reach of the project in the future. 

Peruvian Hearts

Peruvian Hearts is a group working to raise awareness of the needs of children and orphens living in poverty in Peru.  Fundraisers are held to help transform the lives of these cildren and orphans through enhanced education, nutrition and healthcare.  

Project Fuzzy

Project Fuzzy encourages students to develop an understanding of the fiber arts by teaching them how to knit and crochet.  The created hats and blankets are then donated to the Denver and Colorado Springs Children's Hospitals.  

Relay For Life

Relay for Life hosts a fun-filled philanthropic event where teams of individuals take turns walking or running laps overnight.  The event honors survivorship and raises money for the American Cancer Society's programs and research.  

Stocking Shuffle

Stocking Shuffle is a fundraiser that includes various campus events to benefit an annual community fundraising drive that helps support 14 local non-profit organizations during the holiday season.
