NVivo is a qualitative data analysis (QDA) computer software package produced by QSR International. It has been designed for qualitative researchers working with very rich text-based and/or multimedia information, where deep levels of analysis on small or large volumes of data are required. It contained tools for fine, detailed analysis and qualitative modeling.[source]
NVivo 8 is installed on three machines in the library basement for students who are doing independent qualitative research. Thay are labeled with a yellow tag on the monitor (they're in the "Bowling Alley" lab in the library basement). Additionally, Palmer 2, Barnes and the Sociology lab have NVivo on them as well.
Unfortunately, QSR international (the makers of NVivo) are very restrictive and the license does not allow us to install NVivo on the SAS terminal server. If you are on a Windows computer, you can download a 30 day trial of the NVivo 10 from their site.
NVvivo is currently a Windows only product. QSR international has announced that they are coming out with NVivo for Mac later this year
If you wanted to buy a copy of Windows, it is possible to install it on your Mac (alongside Mac OS), so that you can run NVivo, but most people don't like that option.
