Tara Mullin ’12 receives Critical Language Scholarship to study in China

Graduating senior Tara Mullin, a Boulder, Colo., native, has received a Critical Language Scholarship from the U.S. State Department to study Chinese this summer at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics in Shanghai, China.

The Critical Language Scholarship Program is an effort to increase the number of Americans who study and master languages such as Chinese, Arabic, Bangla/Bengali, Hindi, Punjabi, Turkish, and Urdu that are considered critical to international relations.

Mullin, a biology major with minors in art studio and Asian studies, interned last summer in Beijing with an advertising agency.   She has studied Chinese for the past four years with Fanny Zhang, a CC lecturer in the department of German, Russian, and East Asian languages, and hopes to pursue a career in international merchandise buying, product design, or fashion design following her course in Shanghai.

She directed the Colorado College fashion show this year and is a co-chair of both the sewing club and integrative design club.
