CC Among Top Contributors to Teach For America

Colorado College is among the top contributors to Teach For America among colleges and universities of its size. CC, which is categorized as a “small school,” (2,999 or fewer undergraduates), placed 14 alumni with Teach For America last year.
Additionally, a high percentage of Colorado College students who apply for the program are accepted: Last year 47 students applied, 16 were accepted, and 14 signed on with the program.
“We’re on pace to have similar numbers of graduating Colorado College seniors join the 2012 corps, but, knowing the number of talented students at Colorado College who would make excellent future teachers, I believe we can exceed those numbers this year,” said Megan Morton, Teach For America recruitment manager.
The competition has become increasingly fierce; during the 2010-11 academic year, Teach For America received a record 48,000 applications, the largest applicant pool in the history of the organization. Applicants included graduating seniors, graduate students, and professionals.
Teach For America is the largest external recruiter that comes to campus, said Geoff Falen, director of Colorado College’s Career Center.
