CC Junior Wins Gilman Scholarship, Named Freeman-ASIA Alternate

Chelsea Brown ’14, an Asian Studies major with a focus on Japan, has won both a Gilman scholarship and has been selected as an alternate for the Freeman-ASIA scholarship. Brown, who originally is from Chicago and now lives in Denver, will spend the spring semester and much of the summer attending the ACM Waseda University Program in Japan.

The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards for undergraduate study abroad. The program, established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000, allows undergraduate students receiving Federal Pell Grant funding to participate in study-abroad programs worldwide. The Freeman-ASIA (Awards for Study in Asia) provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in East of Southeast Asia.
