Colorado College’s 131st commencement ceremony was held at 8:30 a.m., Monday, May 20 on Armstrong Quad, with 508 undergraduate students receiving their degrees from Colorado College President Jill Tiefenthaler. Marian Wright Edelman, founder and president of the Children’s Defense Fund, delivered the commencement address, titled “The Values of Life-Long Learning, Civic Engagement, and Intellectual Leadership.”
Receiving honorary degrees were Raymond Dean Jones ’67, former Colorado Court of Appeals judge and a member of the AARP board of directors; Susan Axelrod ’74, founder and chairwoman of Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy; and Chilean author Antonio Skármeta, who for nearly three decades has taught CC students on and off campus. The commencement ceremony was followed by a reception on Worner Quad. Graduates, family, and friends can share commencement photos and tweets with the CC community using #ColoradoCollege2013. The event also was live-streamed.
