CC OFFERS VARIED CHILDREN’S SUMMER PROGRAMS
Elementary school students have an array of programs to select from
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Feb. 9, 2007 – Colorado College is offering three unique programs for children this summer.
CC’s renowned summer Gifted and Talented Program, which draws students from all over the United States as well as overseas, will celebrate its 26th year this summer. The three-week program offers a variety of hands-on classes for gifted students entering grades 1-6 in the fall.
Additionally, the college is offering its Whiz Bang Science Program, a two-week
program for students entering grades 1-7 in the fall, and FunQuest, a nine-week
summer day camp open to children ages 6-12, or entering grades 1-6.

8:30 to 11 a.m., Monday -Friday, June 11-29
The application deadline is March 14; please note that the application
requires recommendations from educators. Cost: $210
Charlotte Mendoza, chair of CC’s education department, started this program in 1981 to provide gifted children with something constructive to do in the summer. She says research shows that the single most advantageous thing one can do for gifted students is to cluster them together.
The courses are divided by grade levels, with choices increasing as the students get older. The eight courses offered this summer cover a variety of topics, ranging from rainforests to France and its culture to digital photography.
This summer’s courses include:
- Wild About Rainforests (first grade)
- Geology Rocks! (second and third grade)
- Park It! (exploring the life of some of the city’s parks for second and third grade)
- Tour de France (second and third grade)
- Digital Snapshots for Creative Minds (fourth, fifth and sixth grade)
- Shiver Me Timbers! (fourth, fifth and sixth grade)
- Space Scouts (fourth, fifth and sixth grade)
- “’Tis a Match!” (Shakespearean acting for fourth, fifth and sixth grade)
