Five CC seniors present biochemistry research; two net awards - Colorado College

Five Colorado College senior biochemistry students recently presented their research at the national meeting of the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, with two CC students receiving awards.

David Booth ’07 and Bryan Eason’07 garnered awards for their research at the 11th Annual ASBMB Undergraduate Research Achievement Award Poster Competition, held April 23-May 2 in Washington, D.C.

Booth’s research topic was "Thermodynamic Examination of the Role of the Base Triple in TAR RNA"; Eason’s was “Isothermal Calorimetric Studies of Metal Binding to TAR RNA.” All five students worked with Neena Grover, associate professor of chemistry. The research in her lab focuses on studying small RNA structures, specifically the in non-canonical interactions and metal binding properties of unique RNA structures.

The other CC seniors presenting at the conference were Keri Nelson, Brittney Thall and Eric Monk.

After graduation Booth will study biophysical biochemistry in graduate school, and Eason will attend veterinary school. Monk and Thall are going to medical school and Nelson plans to study nutritional biochemistry.
