	<title>CC Offers Low-Cost Rental Cars in Sustainability Effort</title>

	<description><![CDATA[<p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><font color="#808080" size="2">A new car-sharing program, Connect by Hertz, is now available to students, faculty, and staff at <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Colorado</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">College</st1:placetype></st1:place>. This provides an environmentally friendly alternative to bringing cars to campus. Qualified drivers age 18 and older are able to rent either a Ford Escape or a Toyota Prius at a low cost, by the hour or the day (which includes insurance, gas, GPS, and a lot more). 	<title>Colorado College's Dennis Showalter Publishes New Book</title>

	<description><![CDATA[<p>Colorado College History Professor Dennis Showalter has published a new book, &ldquo;Hitler's Panzers: The Lightning Attacks That Revolutionized Warfare.&rdquo; Showalter, a renowned World War II scholar, presents a comprehensive and unbiased study of Nazi Germany&rsquo;s armored forces and their influence on the role of the army in the Third Reich. Panzers, self-contained armored units able to operate independently, became the nucleus of the German army&rsquo;s fighting power as well as its moral focus and the core of its identity, establishing an entirely new military doctrine. Showalter is a visiting professor and guest lecturer at West Point, and former president of the Society for Military History. The book, published by Putnam Berkley Publishing Group, will be available Dec. 1.</p> ]]></description>

	<title>Colorado College Noted Nationally for Outstanding 'Green' Efforts</title>

	<description><![CDATA[<p>Colorado College has been named one of 15 Green Rating Honor Roll colleges&nbsp;for 2010. The Princeton Review, in its second year of the rating,&nbsp;collected data about environment-related policies, practices and academic offerings from&nbsp;697 colleges and universities. Colorado College is among the 15 that received the highest possible score. Criteria cover three areas: 1/ whether the college or university's students have a campus quality of life that is healthy and sustainable 2/ how well the institution is preparing its students for employment and citizenship in a world defined by environmental challenges and 3/ the college or university's overall commitment to environmental issues. Specific areas examined include energy use, recycling, food, buildings,&nbsp;transportation to academic offerings, availability of environmental studies courses, and action plans and goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.</p>

	<description><![CDATA[<p>A fourth Colorado College graduate has been tapped for a position with the Obama administration. President Barack Obama announced on Thursday, July 9, that he intends to nominate Marcia McNutt, a 1974 graduate of Colorado College, to be director of the U.S. Geological Survey and science advisor to the secretary of the interior. McNutt will be the first woman to head the USGS. 	<description><![CDATA[<span>Colorado College&rsquo;s Drama/Dance and Asian Studies departments leaped to the global stage when the World Games opened on Thursday, July 16 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Yunyu Wang, Colorado College professor of dance and a <span>&nbsp;</span>member of the college&rsquo;s Asian Studies faculty, served as the artistic director of the opening performance. She also choreographed the &ldquo;Ocean Dance&rdquo; portion of the event. 	<title>CC English Professor David Mason Named Creativity Prize Recipient</title>

	<description><![CDATA[<p><font size="2">David Mason, an English professor at <st1:place><st1:placename>Colorado</st1:placename> <st1:placetype>College</st1:placetype></st1:place>, recently was named the 2009 Thatcher Hoffman Smith Creativity in Motion Prize recipient. The prize, given by the University of Oklahoma College of Arts and Sciences, is a biennial award honoring the creative process and is worth $40,000.</font></p>
<p><font size="2">The award allows Mason more time to focus on creating the libretto for the opera adaptation of his verse novel &quot;<st1:city>Ludlow</st1:city>,&quot; which tells the dramatic story of immigrants caught in a labor struggle in southern <st1:state><st1:place>Colorado</st1:place></st1:state>, culminating in the Ludlow Massacre of April 1914. Mason previously teamed with composer Lori Laitman for the 2008 opera &quot;Scarlet Letter,&quot; her first full-length opera. With nine books written and edited, and poems published in such magazines as <em>The New Yorker</em>, <em>Poetry</em>, <em>The New Republic</em>, and <em>The Nation</em>, Mason was inspired to adapt &ldquo;<st1:city><st1:place>Ludlow</st1:place></st1:city>&rdquo; after his experience with the libretto for Laitman's &quot;Scarlet Letter.&quot; <a target="_blank" href="http://www.musicalamerica.com/news/newsstory.cfm?storyid=20744&amp;archived=0&amp;categoryid=5&amp;headline=Laitman%20and%20Prize%20Winner%20Mason%20Poised%20to%20Collaborate%20on%20Second%20Opera">Learn more</a> about this project.<br />

	<title>CC Sociology Professor Lead Author on Ground-Breaking Study of Youth and Digital Media</title>

	<description><![CDATA[<p>C.J. Pascoe, assistant sociology professor at Colorado College, is a lead author on a newly released study that shows time spent online is important for teen development. The study was released at the American Anthropological Association&rsquo;s annual meeting on Nov. 20 in San Francisco.</p>
<p>Over the course of three years, researchers interviewed more than 800 young people and their parents, and spent more than 5,000 hours observing teens on digital social networking sites. Pascoe, who wrote a chapter on intimacy, says results show that America&rsquo;s youth are developing important social and technical skills online &ndash; often in ways adults do not understand or value.
