Upgrading the Colorado College network (wired & wireless)
What's Currently Happening (for more
detail, see our Current Status
page)!
Outdoor APs have been installed and turned on - everything is working well. At this point we're trying to get everyone migrated over to the new wireless "Tigernet2"! Instructions for connecting are live on our Help Desk website.
Project Summary
The current network infrastructure at Colorado College is 7-12 years old (or older), it was designed in phases (never holistically), and it was implemented to serve the needs of an earlier (and pre-wireless) digital era. Most of the current network electronics are outdated and no longer manufactured and supported by vendors. We have done all that we can to maintain, improve, and repair this current infrastructure, but it is time to update it in order to address evolving and emerging technology uses by faculty, students, and staff.
After three years of careful research and analysis, the Board of Trustees and Senior Staff decided (in February 2006) that we should move ahead with the network upgrade project. During the past year we have finalized the network design, we have selected the best vendors, we have developed an implementation and communication schedule that is sensitive to the intense nature of the Block Plan, and we have negotiated best pricing and terms and funding streams.
We are poised to install, test, and support a new campus network in 2007. It promises to be a more robust, ubiquitous, and reliable network to support the digital needs of our campus. We are excited about the many new features the network will support. The purpose of this website is to address more specific questions – and answers – for the user community.
