Subject: Coming back from Spring Break - consider coming in
a little early!
Hi everyone! Happy almost-Spring Break!
As you saw from the network upgrade message yesterday, (pasted
below my signature, for your reference), your office and departmental
computers will all need to be registered on the new network
when you return from Spring Break. The process is very simple
and should only take a matter of minutes. Teams of people
will be available in your buildings on the day that your department
is scheduled for the switch, to help those who happen to be
around. Detailed instructions will be left on computers for
people who will be away.
If you aren’t planning to be on campus during Spring
Break, (and after your building is cut over), ATS
recommends that you come in a bit earlier than normal on the
first day of Block 7, just in case you experience
any technical issues in your office, your smart classroom,
or with your departmental printers or copiers. ATS, Help Desk
and Network Systems and Services staff will be available should
you need assistance, but having some extra time to solve any
problems will really be helpful!
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t
hesitate to contact me, the Help Desk, or any member of the
ATS team! The network upgrade website is being updated daily
now, and is also a great source of information - http://www.coloradocollege.edu/networkupgrade.
Best,
Marla

To the Campus Community,
Network cut overs will be happening during spring break –
that means later this week, and most of next week! Please
read below, and check out the network upgrade website for
more detailed information (http://www.coloradocollege.edu/networkupgrade).
Starting Thursday, March 15th and continuing through Spring
Break we are going to "cut over" from the old equipment
to the new in almost every building on campus. This means
three important things:
Outages
There will be network “outages,” building by building,
as we disconnect computers from the old network switches and
connect them to the new ones. Check http://www.coloradocollege.edu/networkupgrade/theplan.html
for specifics. Most buildings will be “down” for
a half-day window (e.g., 8-12 or 1-5).
Computer Registration
You will need to do a brief computer registration process
as part of the migration to the new network. We will be around
during spring break to assist with this process, and if we
miss you, we’ll leave a brief sheet of instructions
in every office / department.
Realistic Expectations
Although your computers will be hooked into the new network,
there will still be many devices and servers running on the
old network. Until all network-based devices are moved over
to the new network (scheduled for mid-May), you will not see
any noticeable performance increases.
The spring break migration will NOT impact services such
as email, GoWest, H:\ and I:\ drives, etc.
As with any project of this scope and complexity, please
know that there could be unexpected issues (such as problems
printing, or accessing specialized servers). However, keep
in mind that we will be doing all that we can to prevent or
mitigate these, and if any problems arise, we will be staffed
to address them expediently.
Thank you, and have a good spring break,
