Themed Learning

Want to explore life-changing ideas with peers who share your passions? Want to make a difference? Apply to live in a Living and Learning Community (LLC) and grow in a community of like-minded people! LLCs offer campus living that reflects your interests and spirit. Each of these four living communities explores a different topic through experimental engagement and the development of civic skills.

The Basics

All four LLCs are located in Mathias Hall, and each has its own lobby, study lounge, kitchen, and common area. Each community is advised by a student community assistant and a staff program coordinator from a relevant office on campus. LLCs meet regularly over dinner to discuss theme-specific subjects, from engagement with the CC campus to outreach with the surrounding local community. Through the organization and implementation of campus projects and programs, LLC residents have a unique opportunity to thrive within the college community.

Why Living in an LLC Rocks

By Toni Pizza '12

creative space.

What do white boards, flat screen TVs, moveable (yet comfortable) furniture, and loads of wall-space amount to? Basically an art gallery, right? Well, something like that! In the LLCs, we're kind of big on using every space possible for sharing and exploring ideas. Want to show a film? Display your art work? Share an article? Plan a field trip? We have space for all of it.

community kitchen.

Unlike most areas in the traditional residence halls, each LLC has its own kitchen (WITH A DISHWASHER)!!! Because we have such a great kitchen space, we are able to host blockly dinners with CC faculty, staff, and members of the C-Springs community. Community kitchens are perfect for housing provocative program speakers to facilitate dialogue, discussion, and digestion of transcendent themes.

themed living and learning.

In traditional Block Plan style, LLCs allow students to immerse themselves in a theme. Though concentrating on one theme for longer than 3.5 weeks sounds blasphemous, it actually provides great perspective. Focusing in on one specific aspect of the world gets you thinking about the "big picture." You start to see intersections between the theme and almost every other aspect of your life.

The best part of living in an LLC is . . .

". . . how close you become to everyone in your hall. Over time, we've become a family, and I wouldn't want to live in a community any other way."

". . . the constant intellectual conversation that allows you to learn more about yourself and the world around you."

". . . someone is always around and excited to see you when you walk in the door. It's like having a welcome back party every time you get home."

Selection Details

LLC residents are determined by an application process. In order to be considered for the program, applicants must complete the LLC application and have their online housing form submitted by the published deadline. If you have any questions about this requirement, please see the "CC Bound" guidebook or call the residential life main office at (719) 389-6618.
