Virtual Tour of Historic Colorado College
Palmer Hall (1904)

Palmer Hall was named for General William Jackson Palmer, the founder of Colorado Springs and benefactor of the college, Palmer Hall was originally built as a science and administration building. It was built of peachblow sandstone, and the interior has been remodeled several times. The Gates Common Room that is now used for lectures, meetings and faculty events was once the College Museum that included the skeleton of a blue whale which now can be seen in the Denver Museum of Natural History. Today the building houses the departments of the Social Sciences (political science, history, economics, and sociology) as well as geology, mathematics and psychology.
