First (Class) Aid for Research-based Assignments at CC

Ask a liaison librarian to

  • teach your class about
    • searching for and evaluating information
    • citing sources in the style appropriate to your discipline
    • RefWorks, the citation manager.
  • assist with electronic reserves
  • brainstorm ideas for research assignments for your course
  • purchase resources for your course
  • help you locate resources for your class assignment(s)
  • collaborate with you in designing tools to assess the research process as well as the end product

Ask the writing center to

  • teach your class about
    • developing a research question
    • composing a thesis statement
    • developing support for a thesis or argument
    • organizing information from a variety of sources
  • students can go to the writing center for:
    • one-on-one writing consultations (sessions usually last 30-60 minutes) during which students can work on their writing in any stage, from inception to revision of a “finished” draft;
    • workshops on “Critical Reading,” “Speaking in Public,” “Brainstorming Ideas,” “Implementing Research in Your Writing,” and “Interpreting and Explaining Data.”
    • students who are speakers of English as a foreign language can receive help with writing skills.
