Thesis Policies
Thesis Privileges
A student who is granted thesis privileges will be allowed a total checkout of 70 items. The due date will be set for 60 days and material may be renewed for another 60 days. Thesis students may also check out 40 Prospector items. All material is subject to recall for use by someone else after two weeks of use.
Thesis privileges apply ONLY to regularly circulating materials. The following materials may NOT be checked out:
- “Library Use Only” materials
- Reference books
- Reserves
- Periodicals
IMPORTANT: Material borrowed from other libraries through PROSPECTOR or INTERLIBRARY LOAN have different due dates that must be observed.
For items requested through INTERLIBRARY LOAN, thesis students must check with the Interlibrary Loan Department to see if a renewal is possible.
PROSPECTOR material is checked out for 3 weeks and may be renewed for another 3 weeks. Due dates for Prospector items are not set by Tutt Library and cannot be altered for thesis privileges. The replacement fee for lost or damaged Prospector items is $100.00!
How Do I Get Thesis Privileges?
The thesis student must meet with the liaison librarian working with the student’s department or program.

Liaison librarians will inform the Circulation Department to grant thesis privileges.
Thesis Study Carrels
CC thesis students may reserve a study carrel by signing up at the Circulation Desk. Thesis carrels must be renewed each block by seeing a supervisor at the Circulation Desk.
Students who wish to leave library materials at their carrels must check out these materials. Red/orange flags will by inserted in the checked out materials at the Circulation Desk. Study carrels are located around the perimeter of most floors. Carrels allow you to keep study materials you are using in a reserved spot in the library.
Thesis Carrel privileges apply to regularly circulating materials. The following materials may not be left on carrels:
- “Library Use Only” materials, such as theses
- Reference books
- Reserves
- Periodicals
Carrels are checked periodically for non-circulating materials.
Tutt Library will assume no responsibility for personal items left at thesis carrels.
Thesis students have until Monday at 5:00 p.m. of the next block to renew the carrel or material will be removed and other students may reserve it.
Food and Thesis Carrels
Food is not allowed at carrels. Drinks are allowed in covered containers only. Study materials should be maintained to allow custodial staff to clean under and around carrel.
