Managing Collections with Reduced Funding
March, 2009
To Colorado College Faculty:
Tutt Library relies on endowed funds for approximately 70% of our materials budget. This funding will be reduced 5% in 09/10, and another 10% in each of the following years. Operating budget support for materials will also be flatlined at current 08/09 levels for three years. Dean Susan Ashley is committed to supporting the library acquisitions program and will make up some of these losses from endowed funds in the Dean’s office. In order to use these scarce resources wisely and reduce the draw from the Dean’s funds, the library has developed a number of strategies to control library materials costs, as described in the following documents. These ideas have been reviewed by the Information Technology and Library Board and were presented to department chairs on March 30. We welcome your comments and questions. -Carol Dickerson and your library liaisons.
