Thesis Binding Policy 2008
General Guidelines
NOTE: Every thesis must have a Thesis Bindery Information Form attached to it.
Library Copy
The colors for the binding and spine stamps are determined by the library. Each department has been assigned a particular color.
The library should receive the original printed copy of the thesis (no photocopies) printed on white, normal weight, ACID-FREE PAPER. Students should put acid-free paper in a laser printer to print a copy of the thesis for the library. Acid-free paper is available at all Tutt Library printers, the CC Bookstore and from some academic departments.
Because the library copy is the archival one, it must be an exact duplicate of what is given to the department, including all appendices and color illustrations.
Theses should be printed single-sided and double-spaced on 8 1/2 × 11-inch paper. The margins should be: 1 inch at top, bottom, and right side, 1-1/2 inches on the left side for binding purposes.
Each Thesis must have a title page stating author, title, department, and graduation date.
Lengthy titles will be printed up to the colon or the first 65 characters (the maximum number of characters allowed by the bindery). See sample title page.
Each thesis should be placed in a manila folder to protect it during processing, (one thesis per folder).
Bindery shipments are sent out once a month and will be returned about 4 weeks later. Deadlines are NOON on the following dates:
January – 1/14/08

Department Copy/Student Copy
If the department or student wishes to have a bound copy of the thesis, follow the same procedure as for the library copy. There is no charge for the first department copy. Student copies are $8.00 each and must be paid for before they are sent to the bindery. The department coordinator is responsible for collecting the student fees and sending all the copies of the thesis to the library along with a Colorado College Journal Entry to cover the fees for the personal and extra department thesis copies to be bound. If the student brings his/her own thesis to the Periodicals Office, they may pay with cash or a check made out to “Colorado College.” Department coordinators will be notified when the bound theses have returned from the bindery. The student and department copies will be picked up from the library by the departments and all student copies will be distributed from the departments. Tutt Library does not mail out student theses, so it will be necessary for the student to provide a mailing address where the department can send the student copies when they are returned from the bindery.
If there are any questions about the binding policy, please call Sarah Jaecks (Binding Coordinator) at extension 6188, Monday – Thursday, 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
