Writing Center - Colorado College

Meet the Staff

Professional Staff:

Tracy Santa, Director

Tracy Santa received BA and MA degrees from San Francisco State in English/creative writing, an EdM from Harvard, and a PhD in composition/rhetoric from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He has directed writing centers at Loyola University ( New Orleans), the United States Air Force Academy, and the American University in Bulgaria, taught college composition since 1989, and written for the San Francisco Chronicle, the Chicago Reader, and Salon.com. His historical reading of error in composition, Dead Letters, was published by Hampton Press in 2007. Tracy teaches GS 200 Writing Practicum, GS 300 Theory and Practice of Peer Tutoring, and GS 395 Peer Tutoring Practicum, assists the Writing Program Director and individual faculty in development of writing curriculum and pedagogy, and offers group consultation and individual tutorials across the graduate and undergraduate student body.

Molly Gross
, Assistant Director

Molly received her BA in English from Colorado College and is currently pursuing an MFA in poetry at Bennington College. She worked as a peer tutor at the Writing Center as an undergraduate and has worked as a professional staff member at the Writing Center since 1998. Molly works with students who would like more specialized help with their writing: thesis writers, students with learning disabilities, students working on high stakes writing projects (Watson proposals, graduate school applications, résumés and cover letters, grant proposals, etc.), and students who are struggling with the writing process.

Carol Emmer, ESL Specialist

Carol has over twenty years of experience teaching English as a Second Language to non-native speakers. She has undergraduate degrees in Russian, French, and ESL and has worked as a corporate ESL trainer. In addition to her work as a tutor, Carol also teaches GS 200 Writing Practicum, GS 201 Advanced Written Practice in English as a Second Language, GS 202 Advanced Oral Practice in English as a Second Language, and ED 202 Teaching English as a Second Language.

Janelle Dozar, Coordinator of Advising & Tutoring Services

Janelle received her B.A. in English and Journalism from Northwest Missouri State University and is currently pursuing a Masters in Student Affairs in Higher Education from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. She has worked in Admissions and Recruitment offices at Avila University and the University of Kansas. Needless to say, she’s a huge Jayhawks fan.

Steve Lawson, Humanities Librarian and Friend of the Writing Center

Steve's full-time job is as CC's Humanities Librarian, but as Friend of the Writing Center, he serves as a liaison between the library and the Learning Commons and also does some writing tutoring. Steve's undergraduate degree is in theatre from Northwestern University, and his Masters in Library Science is from the University of Texas, Austin. Steve was honored to be part of a peer tutoring class in 2007 where he learned what the Writing Center is all about. His blog, See Also... http://stevelawson.name/seealso/ is mostly about libraries and librarians.

Bridget Babcock , Really Cool Student Worker

Bridget grew up in Jefferson, Wisconsin before coming to Colorado College where she is now a sophomore. She is hoping to major in Psychology and eventually work in a high school setting as a guidance counselor. As the title above states, she is really cool. So you should come on by the writing center to brush up on your grammar and meet this spectacular person.
