TLC Minutes 2003-2004
September 18, 2003 WEB-BASED ELECTRONIC PORTFOLIOS: Many colleges and universities across the country are adopting notebook or electronic portfolios. Walt Hecox, Marla Gerein, and Krista Caufman attended Monmouth College's Midwest Technology Conference in June. On September 18th, they reported on the range of portfolio use at CC and "best practices" at other institutions of higher education (in courses; for majors/programs; as a record for the entire undergraduate experience). The Teaching and Learning Center anticipates that this luncheon will be the first in a series of luncheons addressing portfolio use at CC. September 29, 2003 MILLENNIALS AND LEARNING IMPLICATIONS: Phil Gardner, Director of Research for the Collegiate Employment Research Institute, discussed the Millennial generation, how its members differ from other generations, and most importantly the teaching and learning implications of the shift. October 22, 2003 The Academic Support Services Group organized a luncheon addressing e-journaling practices and pitfalls at CC. Professors Re Evitt and Susan Ashley, and students Mary Groome and Andrew Prevot were guest speakers. November 14, 2003 WORKSHOP ON TEACHING IN SMALL GROUPS Keith Kester works with new faculty to discover effective ways to teach using small groups. October 30 and Novermber 3, 2003 FYE THREE YEAR REPORT DISCUSSIONS Members of the FYE committee met with faculty and staff to discuss the Three-year Report. Employees used this oppurtunity to discuss FYE's strengths and weaknesses and the question of the program's future. November 17, 2003 Learn all about RefWorks, the new online citation management tool. Use RefWorks to import citations from library catalogs and databases into your personal account, and then use RefWorks to create footnotes and bibliographies in dozens of formats (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.).
