Application Process for 2009-10 Housing Accommodations
The Offices of Residential Life and Disability Services work together
to accommodate students with disabilities in the residence hall setting.
We will carefully consider each request for accommodation to ensure that
students with disabilities have equal access to CC’s housing resources.
Please keep in mind that this housing application process is for students
with disabilities. Federal law defines a disability as a physical or mental
impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities
as compared to a person in the general population. It is important to
note that a chronic health or psychological condition in and of itself
does not necessarily constitute a disability. The degree of impairment
must be significant enough to substantially limit one or more major life
activities.
To assist us in fully and fairly evaluating your application,
please submit the information requested below to Disability Services,
which is located in the Learning Commons at Tutt Library, Room 152:
- Application
for Housing Accommodations Due to Disability, which needs to be
completed by the student requesting accommodation
- Disability
Assessment Form for Housing Accommodations, which needs to be completed
by a physician, psychologist, or other appropriate professional (not
a relative of the applicant or a Boettcher staff member)
Please note that students who have apparent disabilities
or who have already provided documentation of disability to Disability
Services may not need to submit the Disability Assessment Form. Please
consult with the Disability Services staff to determine what, if any,
documentation needs to be submitted.
-
You must also submit a personal statement that includes:
-
A full description of your disability and housing needs
-
Your rationale for the requested accommodation, clearly stating
the reason that the requested accommodation is warranted by your disability
-
Benefits if your request is granted and consequences if it is denied
-
A description of why your current housing situation is not meeting
your needs
- An explanation of how the room selection/wait list process will not
allow you to get a housing assignment that meets your needs
If you are requesting housing accommodations for the 2009-10
academic year, please set up a meeting with Jan Edwards, director of Disability
Services, by March 6, 2009 to discuss your housing needs. All required
application materials are due by March 27, 2009.
Students who have submitted complete information and have met with the
director of Disability Services will be notified in writing of the decision.
Please note that Disability Services and Residential Life require a minimum
of two weeks to respond to requests for housing accommodations.
Applications that are incomplete or received after published deadlines
will not be processed unless a condition manifests itself or significantly
changes after the deadline or if there are extenuating circumstances.
Colorado College is a residential liberal arts college with
a three-year residency requirement. Residential living is considered a
significant part of a student’s total educational experience. In
most cases, Colorado College is able to accommodate students with disabilities
with on-campus housing. Students are granted permission to move off campus
for disability-related reasons only in the extremely rare occurrence that
Colorado College cannot accommodate the student on campus.
If you have questions about the housing accommodation request process
or would like to schedule an appointment to discuss your request, please
contact Jan Edwards, director of Disability Services: 719-227-8285; jedwards@coloradocollege.edu. |
