Disability Services

Colorado College offers a variety of services and resources to help students succeed and, in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, CC staff members work closely with students who have documented disabilities requiring accommodation to ensure equal access to the College’s programs, activities, and services.

Disability Services is the designated office at Colorado College that maintains disability-related documents, certifies eligibility for services, determines reasonable accommodations, and coordinates services for students with disabilities. Individuals eligible for services include but are not limited to those with attention deficit disorder and mobility, hearing, visual, speech, psychiatric, or learning disabilities.

Accommodations are provided to students who request support through the disability services program. Students requesting accommodations are asked to complete an application for disability support services and to submit documentation of disability. The documentation submitted by the student is used to verify eligibility for services under the ADA and Section 504.

Some of the accommodations utilized by students at Colorado College include extended time on exams, a quiet exam setting, notetaking services, alternative print formats, and assistive technology.

Students requesting services should schedule a meeting with Jan Edwards, director of the disability services program, as early as possible to discuss their needs and develop an individualized accommodation plan. Ideally, this meeting would take place well before the start of classes.

Students with disabilities can also meet with our learning consultant, Dr. Bill Dove, a professional psychologist specializing in learning disabilities. Dr. Dove helps students identify their learning styles and develop effective learning skills.

We look forward to working with you. Please feel free to contact us at any time if you have questions concerning disability services.
