Email Carol Emmer

The Writing Center offers a variety of resources for those concerned with ESL writing and academics in general. Carol Emmer is our ESL specialist and instructor for the ESL adjunct courses. She has over twenty years of experience teaching English as a Second Language to non-native speakers. She has undergraduate and graduate degrees in Russian, French and ESL. Ms. Emmer also has experience as a corporate ESL trainer. She has compiled the resources below. Additionally, she is available by appointment at x6742.

English as a Second Language is an integral part of the services offered to the diverse student population at Colorado College. Two adjunct courses, GS201 and GS202, provide auxiliary practice with written and spoken skills. In addition, ESL support is available to any non-native English speaker on campus.

Advanced Written Practice in English as a Second Language (GS 201)
Language practice and support for any student whose native language is not English. Review of and practice in American academic writing conventions, mechanics, and English grammar. ½ unit; taught during the fall and spring semesters; Instructor: Carol Emmer.

Advanced Oral Practice in English as a Second Language (GS 202)
Strengthening of oral fluency skills through pronunciation practice, vocabulary development, and review of idiomatic expressions and two-word verbs. Students will also participate in classroom discussions and oral presentations. ½ unit; taught during the fall and spring semesters; Instructor: Carol Emmer.
