The Information Management Newsletter is a periodic publication during the academic year to keep the community informed about developments in information technology on campus.

We will announce publication of a new issue via divisional listservs and campus digests. If you aren't subscribed to one of these lists and would like to receive an e-mail notifying you when a new issue is published, please send your request to swithee@coloradocollege.edu

Email server upgrade this summer

Over the summer months, we upgraded to Exchange 2003 as our email server platform. This upgrade provides improved security and stability as well as bringing a new look and new features to the Outlook Web Access (OWA) client. The new OWA is designed to more closely resemble the full version of Microsoft Outlook. It provides a consistent look across Mac and PC platforms, and supports rich text formatting and spell checking.

New faculty, staff, and students get new email addresses

Email addresses for all incoming faculty, staff, and students are now in the form of

firstname.lastname@coloradocollege.edu

For example, if your name is Joe Smith, your email address would be

joe.smith@coloradocollege.edu

Email addresses at Colorado College are not case-sensitive, and so stylistically, some people prefer to represent their address with a mixture of upper- and lowercase lettering (e.g., Joe.Smith@ColoradoCollege.edu).

Your network and email login, however, still takes the form
firstinitiallastname

So Joe Smith's network login would be
jsmith
Note that the network and email login for students still takes the form
firstinitial_lastname: Student Joe Smith's login would be
j_smith

Existing faculty, staff, and students still have email addresses in the form of firstinitiallastname@coloradocollege.edu. However, all existing faculty, staff, and students have the new email format working as well.  So if your name is Jane Doe, and you have been used to using jdoe@coloradocollege.edu as your email address, you can now also use jane.doe@coloradocollege.edu and it will work!  As we shared in our May 2005 newsletter, we’re taking a phased approach to introducing the new email address scheme, but we encourage you to adopt the new scheme as you print new business cards, join listservs, or otherwise disseminate your Colorado College email address with friends and colleagues.

Keck Mac lab upgraded

The Keck Macintosh lab on the third floor of Armstrong Hall was upgraded this summer. It now has 26 eMacs (25 student stations and 1 instructor station) to support our larger classes. The computers are equipped with 1.4 GHz processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB hard drives, and Superdrives that burn both DVDs and CDs.

The Mac lab can be reserved through our online lab reservation system at

http://acad.coloradocollege.edu/labreserve/phpscheduleit/

If you have problems or questions and you are a faculty member, contact your divisional academic technology specialist for assistance. Otherwise, contact the Help Desk.

Lab Reservation System Upgraded

This summer, we implemented a new web-based reservation system to better enable users to book computer labs on campus. You will find the new lab reservation system at

http://acad.coloradocollege.edu/labreserve/phpscheduleit/

The new system is more Macintosh friendly, as well as easier to update and manage. Using this new system, you can reserve the following spaces on campus: Barnes PC Lab; Keck Mac Lab; Palmer 20 (renumbered as “Palmer 2” after the building’s renovation); and Tutt Lecture Hall (in the Tutt Science Center).  The Banner Training Labs in Barnes and Spencer are also listed here, but their schedules are coordinated by the GoWest Working Group.

If you had an account on the old system, you should have one on the new system, unless your password was less than six characters. However, on the new system, your username will be your full email address. So be sure to include the "@coloradocollege.edu" or the system will not log you in.

Some other differences between the old and new systems include:

1.) A user control panel. Users may now view and delete all of their reservations, as well as change their password and profile data, from a single page.

2.) Recurrence for reservations. This can be done through clicking on the original day you want reserved and using the “Repeat every” box in the upper right of the reservation pop-up.

If you have bookmarks that you have used to get to the old reservation system, you will need to update them to the new URL given above.
