Moot court
Students in Dana Wittmer’s “Constitutional Law in American Politics” course are assigned to play the role of counselor or Supreme Court justice in a case concerning cruel and unusual punishment. The course introduces students to the field of constitutional law, with a specific focus on rights, liberties, and justice. Many of the central Supreme Court cases that have regulated the extent to which the government can or cannot restrict citizens’ fundamental freedoms and rights – freedom of speech, freedom of religion, the right to privacy, etc. – are examined.
