The deadline has been extended to February 20th, 2009. El Pomar Scholarship was created to encourage talented and passionate students from Colorado to pursue careers in public policy or nonprofit work by fully covering tuition, room and board at Colorado College. The scholarship provides students with a first-rate liberal arts and sciences education, along with valuable hands-on experiences and exposure to the foundation’s work in the nonprofit sector. Throughout four years at CC, El Pomar Scholars learn to think critically and work independently and are encouraged to become leaders in their own communities and abroad. Candidates are evaluated on the overall strength of their Colorado College admission application (grades, test scores, essays, recommendations, etc.), leadership potential as well as their responses to the scholarship application. Finalists will be invited to interview on campus with the selection committee. Two Scholarships are awarded each year. In particular, we encourage members of American Ethnic Minority groups, students who are the first in their families to attend college and students from low income families to apply. Those not selected may be eligible to receive financial aid awards from the college. The scholarship remains in effect as long as the student makes satisfactory progress towards a degree and maintains his/her commitment to the ten-hour per block service requirement.
