CARPENTRY:

This shop works in all phases of carpentry, cabinetmaking, furniture
repair, and masonry as well as repair and/or replacement of ceiling
tiles, windows, drapery rods, venetian blinds, lexan at the Ice Rink.
ENVIRONMENTAL
HEALTH & SAFETY:
EH&S provides chemical and hazardous waste disposal services for the
campus, coordinates the radiation safety program, responds to chemical,
biological and radioactive spills and releases, consults with campus
constituents on occupational safety matters and performs ergonomics
assessments for office and industrial work environments. EH&S
coordinates most aspects of environmental compliance on campus,
including air permits, asbestos management, oil spill prevention and
preparedness and underground storage tank management.
Kent
Clawson, CHMM, x6279, manages hazardous materials, including
asbestos, oversees the program, including evaluating ergonomics
concerns.
ELECTRIC:

This shop provides a full spectrum of electrical services to include
rewiring, bulb replacement of anything over 10' high, wiring,
maintenance and repair of life safety systems, and campus security
lighting.
ENERGY
CONSERVATION:

Jim is the Technical Services Manager and the overall manager of the
Central Plant, Electric, HVAC, and Plumbing shops. He determines methods
which will more efficiently control our utilities expenditures. He a1so
acts as our liaison with the City utility department.
GROUNDS:
Jerry Switzer, Supervisor
Jerry supervises a staff of 11 full-time employees which include an
arborist, a horticulturist, a turf grass specialist, and sprinkler
maintenance. Their duties include ice and snow removal, daily clean up
of trash, watering, mowing, weed control, care of athletic fields,
flowerbed design and maintenance.

This shop centers at the Central Plant and includes Plant Operators as
well as mechanics and controls specialist. Central Plant Operators are
responsible for the smooth operation of the Central Plant and the
boilers contained therein. The HVAC mechanics and controls specialist
are responsible for heating/cooling/ventilation system levels in all
campus buildings. The Swimming Pool and Ice Rink mechanic functions and
campuswide welding requirements are also the responsibility of this
shop.
LOCKSMITH:

This shop has responsibility for all locking systems on campus. The Lock
Shop is responsible for all lock changes, cuts keys, maintains systems
so they function properly, changes and maintains combination lock
systems, and maintains the campus door access system. They also work
with the systems for ADA access and fire doors.
PAINT:

Responsibilities include maintenance of all painted surfaces in academic
buildings and, when requested by Residential Life, dormitories. Grafitti
removal, curb painting, replacement of rubber base, and making or
replacing signs for interiors of academic buildings are also the domain
of this shop.

All work orders are channeled via ext. #6876, fax #6981, e-mail to
Sally, or by written request. The office staff issue keys, process
invoices, purchase orders and requisitions, schedules appointments.
Deals with contract services for trash removal, elevator maintenance,
pest control, warranty issues. The office staff acts as liaison with
campus community, contractors, vendors, etc.

PLUMBING:

This shop is responsible for sewer cleaning, broken pipe repair, thawing
frozen lines, repair or replacement of plumbing fixtures, checks for gas
leaks, backflow preventers.
SECURITY:
Ron Smith, Chief
Ron has a staff of about 20 Security Officers which includes dispatchers
who staff the Security Office 24 hours per day. The staff safeguards the
campus community. They are responsible for traffic and parking control,
dog control, noise abatement, transporting of injured or ill students,
issuance of parking stickers, eviction of non-affiliated persons from
College property, in addition to many and varied duties. The dispatch
staff provides contact with the Facilities Services staff for after-hour
emergencies. Please call ext. #6707 with after-hour emergencies.

This shop does purchasing for Facilities Services and, in many cases,
other campus departments. Events (or Set-ups) are also a part of this
shop. It provides quick and efficient set-up of chairs, tables, podiums,
staging for campus functions. It provides set-up coordination for
Homecoming, Commencement, lectures, luncheon and dinner meetings, drama
and musical presentations, etc.

Transportation shop is responsible for approximately 80 College vehicles
to include fleet vehicles, maintenance vehicles, mowers, Zambonis, etc.
The drivers respond courteously and efficiently to all driving
requirements as scheduled. To schedule a vehicle for use on College
business, please call ext. #6175. Driving Training Classes are the 1st
Tuesday of each block at 3:00pm. There are 2 additional classes on the
2nd Tuesday of Block 1 & 5. All classes are held at Facilities Services
in the Van Briggle Conference Room. Please Bring your driver's license
with you.
