Shaping Science into Stories: One Filmmaker's Adventure

Location

Screening Room
Edith Kinney Gaylord Cornerstone Arts Center, 825 N. Cascade Ave. (map)

Description

Documentary filmmaker Katy-Robin Garton ’01 talks about her work as founder of Sprout Films in Missoula, Mont.  With an undergraduate degree in physics and a graduate degree in documentary filmmaking, Katy helps bridge the gap between science and society by bringing human stories to life through storytelling.  Among the issues she has explored are hunger in Africa, climate change in Bhutan, exploring the life that teems in Yellowstone's thermals, and preserving ancient art music in Azerbaijan. Recently she documented one man's journey from paralysis to a cross-country bike ride, and a 5-day ski video competition in Chile.
