Description

 

 

This exhibition examines the ways in which European Catholic imagery and ritual practices took root and evolved in Latin America, Central America, and the American Southwest.

 

Devotional Cultures is curated from the collection of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center by Michael Brown, Research Associate, Denver Art Museum New World Department in consultation with Rebecca Tucker, Associate Professor of Art History, Jessica Hunter-Larsen, IDEA Curator, and Michael Howell, Registrar/Collections Manager, Colorado Springs Fine Art Center.

 

Exhibition interpretation and design elements are contributed by Colorado College students in Introduction to Museum Studies Independent Study and Jesus: The Bible and Beyond.

 

The Preview Reception features a gallery talk by curator Michael Brown and presentations by student contributors.

 

Michael Brown served as the 2007-2012 Mayer Center fellow in the Denver Art Museum’s New World department. He earned a Ph.D. from the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University in 2011. His dissertation is titled Portraiture in New Spain, 1600-1800: Painters, Patrons & Politics in Viceregal Mexico.
