Description

From January 21 through March 12, 2013, IDEA Space will host the exhibition "American Qur'an." In response to a decade of travel to various Islamic regions of the world and his own research, American artist Sandow Birk created a large series of codex–like paintings that blend traditional Islamic and contemporary elements to illustrate the suras of the Qu’ran. In so doing, Birk reveals common experiences and beliefs within diverse cultures. The exhibition is part of the year-long project, "Cross-Currents: Exploring Tradition and Change in the Islamic World." IDEA Space is open Monday through Saturday, 1-7p.m.  Closed for Block Break: February 13-17.
