Instructions for processing Form DS-2019

  1. Enclosed is the Form DS-2019 electronically generated through the SEVIS program. It is very important that all the information is correct. Please notify the International Studies Program if changes are necessary. Once you have proofread the document, sign at the bottom of page 1 under “Exchange Visitor Certification.”

  2. In order to obtain a J-1 visa, you must present the U.S. Consular Officer with the Form DS-2019 along with a valid passport, a Colorado College contract letter, and  a receipt of payment of the SEVIS fee. This fee is not covered by Colorado College and must be paid ahead of time. Fees are not payable at the consulate. For SEVIS fee payment instructions refer to http://www.coloradocollege.edu/dept/isp/internationalfacultysevisfee.htm
The J-1 visa application process varies, so we advise you to contact the U.S. consulate in your country regarding additional requirements.  If dependents (spouse or children) are accompanying you, they will also need to attend this appointment.

  3. When you arrive in the U.S., present the Form DS-2019 mentioned above, along with your passport and visa, to the Immigration Officer at the port of entry.  You will be given an I-94 departure card.  Keep this I-94 departure card in your passport at all times. You will need it to exit the U.S.

  4. You must notify the International Studies Program office upon your arrival at Colorado College to establish an active J-1 Exchange Visitor Record. Contact Charlotte Blessing, Director of the International Studies Program, Tel.: 719-227-8280 or Charlotte.Blessing@ColoradoCollege.edu.
