About the Program

College Ahead! is designed to help students prepare for higher education by providing a stimulating and supportive introduction to collegiate academic and social life.  If you are a student from the American Southwest and you're exploring options available to you after high school, you might want to know about the opportunities available to you at a small liberal arts and sciences college at the foot of Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Students will learn how to better prepare for the college application process and discover tools for how to succeed once in college.  Students will hone reading, writing, and speaking skills and engage intellectually with other students.

Eligibility:  We're looking for open-minded, motivated students who are curious about college opportunities and interested in this year's topics.  Applicants must be from New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, Colorado or Oklahoma.  Applicants must be entering their junior year in high school in the 2004-2005 school year.

Costs:  This program is free of charge to accepted students, thanks to a generous grant from the Robert and Ruby Charitable Trust.  Stipends for travel, transportation, and spending money are also provided.  Students will live on campus in designated residence halls with trained counselors.  The value of this program includes the pre-college course ($946) and one week room and board ($309), in addition to the stipends mentioned above.

Introduction.
The San Luis Valley Program at Colorado College was started in the summer of 1991 to encourage more students from Colorado's San Luis Valley to pursue college careers. The program has since branched out to include neighboring areas in Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado. We are seeking academically qualified, mature, motivated and responsible students for this program.

Students who will be entering their junior or senior year of high school are welcome to apply to this two-week, on-campus program which takes place in June of each year. Students enrolled in the program attend classes on the Colorado College campus, live in College dormitories, and eat in the College's dining halls. Each year's program has a different focus. For example, the 1999 program studied the relationship between art and mathematics, and the 2000 program will focus on mathematics and creative writing.
