Southwest Studies at Colorado College

Jackson Fellowship Application Information

Proposals for Jackson Fellowships must justify requests for time to pursue research and scholarship on the American Southwest (to include closely related geographic regions, e.g. Western U.S. and Northern Mexico).

The Jackson Fellows program operates independently of the College’s faculty development program. Full-time* CC faculty can apply for two different types of awards: research grants and released time.

Research grants of up to $3500 (taxable) are awarded for research and new course development. If used for summer research, these grants are intended to be used in lieu of summer teaching.

The grant can also be used to offset expenses incurred for travel necessary for research or course development.

Released time can be used to develop a new course or conduct research. Of course, clearance by the department chair with respect to replacement is required with each proposal.

The exact number of blocks awarded each year will vary according to endowment income.

Exclusions: Conventions (travel or expenses), major equipment purchases, and work toward advanced degrees will not be funded. Jackson blocks may not be combined with sabbatical leave per college policy.

Recipients of these awards will be designated Jackson Fellows. Jackson Fellowships may be held in association with other awards and grants.

*Visiting and part-time faculty may only apply for research grants of up to $2000 (taxable).
