Next Aficionados Luncheon How to Join the Aficionados Upcoming  Aficionados Luncheon

The Aficionados

The Hulbert Center Aficionados is a group of people united by their interest in the American Southwest and Colorado College's Southwest Studies program. Begun in the fall of 1984, it is open to all who want to learn more about our region (southern Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, southern California, Texas, Oklahoma, Utah, and the Borderlands): its land; its people; the relation of land and people; the relation of its peoples to each other.

In addition to notices for monthly luncheon-lectures and other special events of the Aficionados, members receive la Tertulia, a newsletter of the Hulbert Center and Southwest Studies program. The only cost to members is that of luncheon meals (if you have made a reservation); there are no dues. For more information contact Suzi Nishida at (719) 389-6647 or SNishida@ColoradoCollege.edu.

AFICIONADOS LUNCHEON

Wednesday, May 7, 2008, 12 Noon:  Katie Davis Gardner (CC '81).   "Woven Across Time,"  the Hispanic tradition of textile weaving in the Southwest dates to the earliest settlement of the Spanish in the Rio Grande River Valley.

If you make a reservation and cannot come, please call to cancel, preferably at least two days in advance. Because of new policies   imposed upon us by the caterers, we ask that in the future, if you are unable to attend, you contact our office two days prior to the     luncheon. Unfortunately, we must give an exact count to the caterers 48 hours prior to the event, and we must pay for the meals of anyone who does not attend.   For all upcoming luncheons, we will have to charge no-shows for their meals, to offset the costs to the  Hulbert Center.

Parking has been an issue this last year. For 2007, there are some changes to better serve our community patrons. There is paid parking available in each lot, with a big yellow machine to dispense tags for the correct amount of change.   Should you prefer to park further away, there is a free shuttle service that scoots along Nevada,Tejon, and Cascade.   Just look for the green and yellow buses. The shuttle will drop you across  the street from Gaylord Hall
