Takeshi Ito (Ph.D., Yale) has joined the Colorado College in the fall of 2008. He is an Assistant Professor of Political Science. Based on his political ethnography of local politics in the Priangan highlands of West Java, Indonesia, his doctoral dissertation examines the failure of civil society approach to democratic decentralization by focusing on the actors and processes of the democracy movement on the ground. His teaching interests include power, inequality, democratization, development, state-society relations, local political processes, villages, agrarian societies, and Southeast Asia.
