CC Tiger Jazz Ensemble
Be a part of a growing tradition in the CC Music Department!
The Tiger Jazz Ensemble is a traditional 18-piece big band consisting of 5 saxophones, 4 trombones, 4 trumpets, piano, guitar, bass and drums. Auditions for the ensemble are held at the beginning of the academic year with the opportunity for qualified students to challenge into the ensemble at the beginning of second semester. Auditions are based solely on sight-reading and improvisation is highly encouraged. Interested students should look for information concerning Tiger Jazz auditions at the beginning of the academic year and second semester challenges upon their return from Winter Break.
Under the direction of Ricky Sweum, Tiger Jazz performs two formal concerts each year, one each semester, in Packard Hall Theater, and occasional performances around campus for various events. Tiger Jazz is not just about performance however, throughout the year students are interactively exposed to a wide variety of jazz related subjects from learning jazz improvisation and history to understanding Latin/Afro-Cuban jazz rhythm.
Rehearsals are held Tuesdays, 6:00 to 8:00 PM in Packard Hall room 9. Some instruments are available from the school for a nominal rental fee. Private lessons with the applied jazz faculty are available and encouraged.
