Music at Colorado College

The Colorado College Chamber Orchestra

The CC Chamber Orchestra is a relatively recent addition to the musical life of the campus. Founded in 1989, the orchestra already has a 1997 tour of Japan to its credit. The ensemble, consisting of about 40 members, is directed by Lecturer in Music, Daniel Brink and rehearses on Monday evenings in Packard Performance Hall. The orchestra performs two concerts each year, one each semester.

Each spring semester, the winner of the student Concerto Competition is a featured soloist on the orchestra program, and the orchestra also collaborates with the CC Chamber Choir and the CC New Music Ensemble. Smaller student chamber ensembles have also been featured on orchestra concerts. We perform works from the standard orchestral repertoire, from Bach to Britten, and each year American works figure prominently in our programming.

Sectional rehearsals are led by an outstanding faculty of performing artists including Jeri Jorgensen of the Da Vinci Quartet, who have performed and recorded worldwide. Students registering for Chamber Orchestra receive 1/4 credit per semester. The Chamber Orchestra provides students with an opportunity to continue their musical involvement, regardless of their chosen college path, provides an excellent break from the Block Plan, and offers a supportive community of fellow student music lovers.
