GR 211--German Film since 1945. A study of German cinema of the post-war era, including more contemporary films. Discussions and films shown will reflect the concerns of a younger generation of film-makers, including coming to terms with the legacy of the Third Reich in such films as "The Murderers are Among Us," "The Tin Drum," and "The Nasty Girl;" the New German Cinema of Fassbinder, Wenders, and Herzog; and alternative points of view by women and gay film-makers such as Dörrie, v. Trotta, and v. Praunheim. Readings and discussion are in English. All films have English subtitles. (Offered alternate years.) 1 unit. Taught by Geppert.
