| Colorado College began a short-term Study Abroad program in Germany in 1973 with a view toward providing its students a rich and integrative experience in German life and letters. Since 1983, the Department of German has been offering students a semester-long unique learning and living program in Lüneburg, Northern Germany. This study program is open to Colorado College students and applicants from selected colleges. The prerequisites are three semesters of German or the equivalent, such as GR 201. |
| Classes are taught during the American Spring semester at the University of Lüneburg, an institution of higher learning of the State of Lower Saxony. It involves faculty from both the Colorado College and the University of Lüneburg. The semester begins with GR 202 (Intermediate German II) in block 5, then GR 314 (German Culture and History), followed by GR 305 (German Composition and Conversation) in block 7 and GR 320 (Contemporary German Drama) in block 8. All classes are taught in German under Colorado College's intensive "block system". Field trips in every block support the classroom experience. There is a two week Easter/Spring break for travel in Europe. Students are formally enrolled at the university and have access to all facilities of the school. Private accommodations with local families enhance the program and language learning. Program dates for 2008: January 21 - May 14, 2008. |
