Colorado College operates under an innovative system known as the block plan.  During the academic year, you enroll in only one course at a time.  Each course lasts three and one-half weeks and is worth one CC unit or four semester hours of credit.  During the summer, a similar system operates.

Secondary MAT

During the first summer, you complete content background courses, participate in action research and educational technology classes, and begin research on an extended masters research paper. The first semester is devoted to reading methods, secondary school teaching methods, and student teaching. If your student teaching performance is satisfactory, you begin a full-time, semester-long, spring internship at a local school. During the second summer, you complete a community resources class and an educational foundations course.

Elementary MAT

During the first summer, you will enroll in social studies and language arts, science and health, and expressive arts teaching methods courses and begin to write an extended masters research paper. The first semester is devoted to mathematics and reading methods courses and student teaching.  If your student teaching performance is satisfactory, you begin a full-time, semester-long, spring internship in a local school.  During the second summer, you complete an educational foundations course and part two of teaching the expressive arts.
