A student who has been accepted into the teacher education program and has completed all the required methods courses. Student teaching spans three to four months, during which the student gradually takes over for the cooperating teacher. The cooperating teacher attends an orientation at Colorado College and is highly involved in student feedback, meeting formally with the student and completing formal evaluations with the College supervisor at least twice. See the following web sit areas for more information: Becoming a Cooperating Teacher and The Student Teaching Handbook.
A student in the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program. This student first completes all methods courses as well as student teaching. The internship phase begins during the second semester as this student takes over the same class(es) in which he/she completed student teaching. The cooperating teacher then steps out of the classroom for the rest of the semester, becoming a Teacher On Special Assignment (TOSA) for the department and/or school. TOSA roles are determined by the cooperating teacher and principal. For more information, see Internship Phase and Becoming a Cooperating Teacher. |
