I prepared this website to provide additional resources to those interested in organizing field trips as discussed in my paper, “Case Studies on Location: Taking to the Field in Economics,” forthcoming in the Journal of Economic Education. While my case study/field trips have focused on economic issues, I believe that both the paper and these materials are relevant for anyone organizing and conducting extended off-campus experiences for students. This site provides practical advice on food and lodging as well examples of various materials I prepare for the course. These include:
| A Field Trip Schedule | A Letter to a Scheduled Speaker | |
| A Pre-Trip Memo to Students | The Final Assignment | |
| A Follow-Up Letter to Speakers | Alcohol and Drug Policy |
The List of Field Trips shows the topics and places I have pursued over the last 18 years. In addition, Michael Watts, Associate Editor of the JEE, graciously provided a set of questions prepared by Dr. George Fersh of the National Council on Economics Education (NCEE) as a guideline for field trips to individual firms.
If you have advice, thoughts or suggestions that could help others run successful field experiences, please contribute them to the Field Trip Forum.
