5MT 1693

The rock at 5MT 1693 is the most varied in the whole of Lightning Tree Canyon. Motifs range from Basketmaker II-III anthropomorphs and spirals to bird track and corn plant motifs that are likely Pueblo III. The incised grooves are hard to date stylistically, but they overlay most other motifs and so are likely the last episode on the site, perhaps even post-dating Pueblo III. The rock art, taken together with the seep spring and check dam, hints that 5MT 1693 served a greater function than simply habitation and water gathering. It is possible that the site may have been a local shrine.

The anthropomorphic figure, known as football man. This is one of the older motifs on 5MT 1693, and it appears that at some point in time, the figures right foot may have been pecked off. The "spirange", a spiral triangle connecting to a spiral. This petroglyph is also likely quite early, because abrasions and incisions have both been superimposed over it. Some of the perhaps 200 incisions present on 5MT 1693. A number of them create simple figures, such as checkerboards and branching, corn-plant-like designs.

Parallel bird tracks, one large and one small, ending near a sun-burst design. The panel under the pouroff. Three birds-possibly herons or female turkeys-are visible, as well as one definite corn plant, and two deeply incised corn-plant-like motifs.
