Architecture by Sinan, during the reign of Süleyman "The Magnificent"

Sinan, Süleyman's architect (who also worked for two later Sultans), was a Christian Greek by birth--a Janissary soldier.  He was the Sultan's military engineer during many campaigns and only began to work as an architect in his 40s.  He may have built as many as 81 mosques. Sinan died  in 1588 at the age of 100.
