American Cultural Studies courses place the construction of race, gender, and class at the center of our study and critical understanding of American society. The ACS program includes courses which focus on the countries of origin of the major diasporic groups of the United States as well as classes which focus on the history and experiences of racial, ethnic, and cultural groups within the U.S. borders.
The ACS faculty believes that the study of race and ethnicity is most effectively accomplished by using comparative interdisciplinary methods. All American Cultural Studies classes focus on developing strong analytical and communication skills as well as personal engagement with the issues confronting local, national, and global communities.
The Program is currently offered as a minor as well as a major under the interdisciplinary Liberal Arts and Sciences program.
