The Partnership for Civic Engagement and District 11 Volunteer Services come together to form Service-Learning Colorado Springs. This collaborative of students, teachers, administrators and community members supports an infrastructure for service-learning. Our work promotes awareness and understanding of service-learning and assists practitioners throughout the process, creating opportunities for all youth to become involved in high quality service-learning that fosters civic engagement. Students in Ginger Utterback’s 2nd grade class helped plant a sunflower garden in their neighborhood. This was the culminating event in a year-long service-learning project which touched on standards in math, language arts, science, and art. |
