The Ahlberg Outdoor Education Center, located at 1024 N. Weber, serves as an outdoor learning resource center for CC students, faculty and staff. A dedication ceremony took place on November 1-2.

The director of outdoor education serves as a resource for any member of the Colorado College community looking to run programs in the outdoors. A wide variety of opportunities for outdoor education and recreation are available through different facets of the Colorado College outdoor education department.

New Student Orientation/Priddy Experience

New Student Orientation/Priddy Experience is Colorado College’s welcome to students and includes an opportunity for many students to see some magnificent places in the southwestern United States. These trips are led by a combination of highly trained students and professional outdoor leaders (many CC alumni) and often include a service component in an outdoor setting such as trail maintenance or environmental restoration.

Outdoor Recreation Committee (ORC)

The Outdoor Recreation Committee offers student-led trips that include hiking, camping, backpacking, backcountry skiing, kayaking and whitewater rafting, and cycling during some block breaks and spring break. The ORC also runs the FOOT (First-year Outdoor Orientation Trip) program during the first block break of every year in which student leaders take first-year students on backpacking trips to a variety of locations in Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah.

CC Gear Room at Ahlberg House

The gear room rents a wide range of equipment including tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, stoves, telemark gear, etc. to all students and staff at reasonable rates. The gear room has a variety of maps, books, and outdoor guides to help students plan their own trips. There is also a ski tuning bench where students can work on their own ski/snowboard equipment, as well as a bicycle work stand and tools for students to work on their own bikes.

CC Alpine Journal

The Colorado College Alpine Journal was first produced by Joe Forrester and Michael Wejchert in 2006. It aims to unite the entire CC climbing community, past and present, and the campus community at large by sharing climbing stories of all shapes and sizes from CC alumni and current students. If you have any questions about the Alpine Journal please contact Michael Wejchert or Kylie Manson.
