Bryan Norrington Wins NCAA Scholarship

Bryan Norrington ’06 was named one of two recipients of the 2006 NCAA Walter Byers Postgraduate Scholarships. He previously won a Fulbright scholarship for a year of study in Japan and is a Public Policy and International Affairs Fellow. Norrington was captain of the Colorado College track and field team in 2004, and holds the school record in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles.
The Walter Byers Postgraduate Scholarship Program was established in 1988 to encourage excellence in academic performance by student-athletes by recognizing those who combine the best elements of mind and body to achieve national distinction for their achievements.
In addition to serving on CC’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Norrington was a minority recruitment and minority organizations representative with the school’s office of admissions, a member of the Minority Recruitment Task Force, and co-president of the Black Student Union.
Jaramillo, Sterling Honored As Top Graduating Student-Athletes


Taylor Jaramillo ’06 and Brett Sterling ’06 were named recipients of the annual Laura Golden and Van Diest Awards as Colorado College’s top female and male student-athletes of the graduating class. Jaramillo graduated with degrees in Spanish and Hispanic studies; Sterling graduated with a degree in economics.
Tigers Make Semifinals of NCAA
Lacrosse Tournament

The CC women’s lacrosse team earned its fifth consecutive NCAA playoff appearance and overcame a tournament-record six-goal deficit to defeat Endicott College, 13-12, in the first round. The Tigers dropped a 19-11 decision to SUNY-Cortland in the regional semifinals to finish the season with a 10-7 record.
Helen Sneath ’06 was named a first-team All-American by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches/U.S. Lacrosse, a fitting climax to her college career. She joins former Tiger standout Cassie Abel ’05 as the only two players in the 12-year history of the program to earn first-team recognition; they are also the only CC players to earn All-America honors three times during their careers. Attacker Kate Fitzgerald ’07 was a second-team selection, while midfielder Hannah Murtaugh ’07 earned third-team honors. Six Tigers were named to the All-West Region Team by the Intercollegiate
Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association, including five who were first-team selections. Sneath, Fitzgerald, Murtaugh, defender Lizzie Rosenberger ’07, and goalkeeper Alana Dalton ’06 were all named to the first team, while attacker Mallory Newton ’08 earned second-team honors.
Andy Partee Named Men’s Head Basketball Coach

Andy Partee, who helped guide Brown University to three runner-up finishes in the Ivy League during the early 2000s, was named head coach of the CC men’s basketball team in April. Partee brings more than 14 years of coaching and recruiting experience to the Tigers. He has served as an assistant on the men’s staff at Brown since June 1998, coordinating national recruiting efforts in addition to his on-court duties. He earlier spent four seasons (1994-98) as an assistant coach at Monmouth University, another NCAA Division I program, as well as two campaigns (1992-94) in the Division II ranks, at the University of Northern Colorado.
Dashiell Earns Spot in NCAA Tennis Tournament

Lily Dashiell ’06 saw her collegiate career come to an end in the first round of the NCAA Division III women’s tennis championship with a 6-4, 6-2 loss to DePauw University’s Liz Bondi. Dashiell was one of only 32 singles players selected to compete in the tournament. She finished the regular season with a 16-3 record at No. 1 singles, which included a school-record 10-match winning streak in dual matches. Dashiell’s 16 victories also were a school record. She played every match at No. 1 singles during her four-year career, and led the team in victories each season.
Boggs Finishes Second at NCAA Track and Field Championships


Julian Boggs ’08 became CC’s second two-sport All-American when he finished second in the 5,000 meters at the 2006 NCAA men’s outdoor track and field championships. He became the first sophomore in the history of CC men’s cross country to earn All-America honors when he finished 27th at the NCAA Division III Championships in November. Boggs also set the school record in the 5,000 with a time of 14:38.17 at the Claremont Classic on May 6, eclipsing the record of 14:43.1 established by All-American Erik Browning ’87 in 1987. Dan Castaneda ’06 narrowly missed on his bid to earn All-America honors when he finished ninth in the 1,500 meters at the Division III championships. He set a school record and qualified for the finals with a time of 3:52.23. Other school records were set by Meaghan Lynch ’08 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Stephanie Simpkins ’06 in the pole vault.
Jaramillo Finishes 4th at NCAA Swimming Championships
Taylor Jaramillo ’06 posted the highest finish ever for a CC swimmer when she finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle at the 2006 NCAA Division III women’s swimming and diving championships, touching the wall in a time of 24.15. The two-time All-American also finished 29th in the 100 freestyle.

Grote Makes All-Independents
First Team
Shortstop/pitcher Emmy Grote ’06 earned a spot on the all-independent first team as a utility player, while catcher Valerie Rivera ’07 and first baseman Nicole Scommegna ’08 received honorable mention accolades from the Association of Division III Independents. CC won seven of its final 10 games to finish the campaign with a 16-22 record, which included a 15-13 mark against Division III opponents. The Tigers also set a school record for victories during the 2006 campaign.
Women’s Basketball Wins West Coast Championship

The women’s basketball team defeated Nebraska Wesleyan University, 73-68 in overtime, to win the inaugural Association of Division III Independents West Coast Championship. Point guard Melanie Auguste ’09 was named the championship’s MVP after leading the Tigers with 23 points. She was joined on the all-championship team by forward Liz Schnaitter ’08. Auguste, the only freshman to earn a spot on one of eight all-region first teams, also was named Rookie of the Year by the Association of Division III Independents and was joined by forward Paige Whitney ’08 on the all-independent second team. The Tigers finished the season with a 15-10 record, the program’s first winning record and most victories since the 1989-90 team finished 17-9.
