KRCC’s year-old news program “Western Skies” won the award for Best Single Event News Coverage of 2005 for the story “Dragon Man’s Machine Gun Shoot,” produced by Stephen Raher ’99, from the Colorado Broadcasters Association on March 11. The show also received a certificate of merit from the CBA for Best News Feature Report of 2005 for “Army Moms,” produced by Eric Whitney and aired nationwide on National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition.”

“Western Skies,” which debuted in January 2005 as a strategic initiative of CC, is a twice-weekly, half-hour public affairs show produced locally to focus on people and issues in its broadcast area. Many segments from the program have been aired on NPR. Also, alumni all over the world can listen to “Western Skies” through the Web site at http://westernskies.krcc.org/. The program is also podcast; it can be accessed at http://www.ColoradoCollege.edu/podcast/subscribe.asp.
